It is electrochemically manufactured from a high-purity alumina matrix, without the use of monomers, plasticizers, adhesives, surfactants or wetting agents in the manufacturing process. Its low protein adsorption minimizes sample loss. It is non-fluorescent and non-toxic, so it does not interfere with cell growth. It becomes nearly transparent when wet, so microorganisms and particles can be captured on the membrane surface and then viewed directly under optical and electron microscopes. Its hydrophilic nature makes it compatible with most solvents and aqueous solutions, making it suitable for filtration of a wide range of samples.
