This part was used from before the war until the mid-Showa period to turn a variable capacitor as a tuning (channel selection) dial in communication equipment.
The tuning version is for variable capacitors and has a rotation angle of 180°, but there is also a version for variable resistors with a rotation angle of 300°. The central adjustment knob and the main shaft on the back are connected via a reduction mechanism, allowing for more precise adjustment of the knob movement. The surrounding scale plate is directly connected to the main shaft. The name comes from the fact that it has a vernier to accurately read the smallest scale digit, but some versions omit it. Installation is done with three screws. In addition to the two holes on the lower surface, there is a tap on the back of the upper part, so it can be screwed from the back of the panel. The main shaft and the shaft of the variable capacitor (or variable resistor) are connected with a set screw next to the main shaft. For this reason, it cannot be installed unless there is space to fit a tool. The reduction mechanism uses the friction of a metal disk and has a sliding effect, so there is a unique feeling of misalignment (backlash) in the operation, but this is not a defect. (The main shaft and the scale plate are directly connected, so there is no misalignment.) Shaft hole diameter: 6mm
Outer diameter: 36mm
Rotation angle: 300°
Rotation ratio: 8:1
Scale: 0 to 100
