By observing how the geomagnetic field generates electricity, we can learn about the magnetic properties of the Earth.
When the hollow coil is manually rotated, an induced current is created by the magnetic field lines of the Earth's magnetic field crossing the coil.
The generated current is checked with a galvanometer.
The coil can be oriented in any direction in space, allowing the direction of the earth's magnetic field to be observed.
