The Ubbelohde viscometer measures the viscosity by placing an appropriate amount of sample into the viscometer and measuring the time it takes for the sample in the timing sphere C (the amount between the marked lines m▼1▽ and m▼2▽) to flow out of the capillary tube. This is a standard kinematic viscometer that does not require correction for differences in surface tension. There are 16 types available to measure kinematic viscosities from 0.3 to 100,000 mm2/s {cSt centistokes}.
